June 13, 2017 – This past week was the 41st annual Pride Week, Pride Parade and Pridefest in Albuquerque. Because of the ART Transit program, the parade had to be re-routed this year, so it started at Washington Street and went all the way down to the New Mexico Expo Center. There were about 40,000 people there in all manner of dress from leather to colorful street clothes, to glitzy burlesque outfits all marching together or riding on awesomely decked out floats in support of, or to show their pride in being part of the LGBTQ Community in Albuquerque.
Pridefest is a big party with music, dancing, local vendors, and don’t forget the Miss Mister New Mexico Pride contest & crowning.
There were several other events going on throughout the weekend, but I feel that one of the most important ones was the ART Candlelight Vigil to remember the people who lost their lives in the Orlando massacre at Club Pulse. STOP THE HATE – PEOPLE!
